breaking news near atlanta where four children are dead after a duplex caught fire. the children ranged in age from 8 months to 7 years. we have learned a 6-year-old child survived with no serious injuries after his mother threw him from the second floor window to safety. the mother, however, was severely burned and is now recovering at an atlanta hospital. the children's grandmother managed to make it out of the home without injury. the cause of the devastating fire is under investigation. >> also new this morning, san francisco police now investigating an overnight shooting and stabbing in a neighborhood. the stabbing happened before 3:15 this morning on connecticut street. the victim was stabbed in the chest but is expected to survive. nobody so far is under arrest. almost two hours earlier police responded to a shooting down the street near connecticut and 25th. the victim was shot in the foot. he's now in the hospital. he is expected to survive. so far no suspects have been arrested. >> 6:04. maritime officials want regulations for ships moving through the bay after an oil t

country. atlanta, 63 degrees. this is not bad for january and, by the way, even a 50 degrees reading today is above normal by 7 degrees here. we have a big storm system that is developing down here across texas and louisiana. look at all the heavy rain with that and some cloud cover getting pulled north with that. eventually, we get some of the showers with that system. and what we had came through in advance of a weak frontal boundary and that is not a lot of rain and we're dry and need it and watch the cloud cover and that is starting to go away and some skies are clearing out and that is ven uss and looks like a star and that is a beautiful thing to see this time of the year. the skies are clear and you can see it. 38 degrees overnight. the low 30s in the suburbs and that is not cold for this time of the year. tomorrow, the sun is back and with that temperature to 51 degrees and by noon, 48 degrees and 49 with a lot of sunshine and thought we could give you a quick look tomorrow and into some upper 40s and low 50s, sunshine in the forecast and we take this shower activity

. john roberts in our atlanta newsroom tonight. home of the cdc. hey, john. >> geographic to you, shep. those numbers particularly among high school girls are very troubling. believe it or not it gets worse as the get older. one in five figure for high school girls. by the time they get into college and working world. that number increases in one in four. the heaviest drinkers tend to be white women followed by hispanic women and as they get into the working world, they have more disposable enemy, more money to buy alcohol. the heaviest drinkers tend to have an income of $75,000 and above. now, all of this as can you imagine has serious potential health consequences. accord to the cdc, 12,000 young women die every year from binge drinking. and there are plenty of other things besides death disease-related to worry about according to dr. tom freidman who is the head of the cdc. here is what he tell me. >> when men and women binge drink they are more likely to have particular problems for girls. unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, violence, injury. as well as other pro

25 miles east of atlanta. firefighters say the mother was able to save one child by throwing him from a second- story window. but four other children, the oldest, just 7 years old, could not be saved. the mother is now being treated for serious burns. the cause of the fire is under investigation. >>> time about 7:59. now we're getting new information about monday's near disaster in the san francisco bay. the coast guard says the crew of an oil tanker was warned just before it hit a bay bridge tower. ktvu's brian flores is in our studio with all of the details. >> reporter: good morning. the investigation continues this morning on what led to the tanker, the overseas shankar -- tanker, to sideswipe the bay bridge. we learned that the coast guard did warn the pilot of the hazard ahead. we were told that the tanker warned the bar pilot before the 750-foot oil tanker swayed the bay bridge. a report released states the vessel traffic service center was in constant communication with the pilot. what remains unclear is whether he had time to react. the coast guard said it interviewed th

grade, deep under atlanta in hard rock. in the downtown area of atlanta, the sewer system and the stormwater system are combined and there are overflows during storm events, and so the purpose of this system is to relieve that flow, take it into the tunnel, transport it to a brand-new treatment plant, clean up the chattahoochee river. narrator: instead of the combined sewage overflowing into the river, it will flow into this tunnel that acts as a storage tank. the water will then slowly empty into the new plant for treatment before it's released back into the river. man: the system in total is about 8 1/2 miles, 27 feet in diameter. most of the time it will be dry. the only time it will fill is when the sewer system is overwhelmed by the storm. it is a massive project. our budget was $210 million. we've worked about a million and a half man-hours. hunter: it is an incredible amount of work. our capital program right now is $3.9 billion. over a period of less than 10 years. franklin: so it's very expensive. the bottom line is, we, as atlantans, as georgians, don't have a choice to
